Very large and tall, with a long neck. Grayish-blue overall with long orangish-yellow bill and black crown and head plumes.
This stately bird with subtle blue-gray plumage often stands motionless as it scans for prey or wades belly deep with long, deliberate steps.
Herons can strike lightning quick to grab a fish.
In flight, look for the tucked-in neck and long legs trailing straight behind.
